In today’s modern world, many of us rely on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to get our news, to seek companionship and get our social interaction for the day. As social creatures, humans need this social interaction to maintain a positive mental health. But what happens when technology shapes this social interaction need, when social media portrays erroneous body images and fake news creep around every social media corner. Studies show that spending an excessive amount of time in social media can worsen mental health illnesses such as depression and anxiety. A study made by the PubMed Central in 2017 found that “adults who watched TV or used a computer for more than 6 hours per day were more likely to experience moderate to severe depression”. Although social media is such a big part of our life now and it does have some positive aspects to it, there are also many negative consequences to not knowing how to balance our time in them.   • Body Dysmorphya or Body Negativity
  • Isolation
  • Cyberbullying
  • Depression and Anxiety
