What is Art Therapy?

People often ask, “what is art therapy?”

Art therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses many types of creative processes to improve your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Expressive art therapy can also increase awareness of self and others. This in turn may promote personal development, increase coping skills, and enhance cognitive function. Based on personality theories, human development, psychology, family systems, and art education, it is a form of therapy that encourages the expression of feelings through painting, drawing, sculpture, and more!

  • The focus is on the creative process rather than the final product.
  • There is NO RIGHT OR WRONG way to use materials and express yourself
  • You are guided by a professional, licensed art therapist
