Dreaming is a nightly occurrence that we all experience at least once in our lifetime. According to a 1996 study, between 60 and 75 percent of adults have recurring dreams. But what are dreams? And what do they mean for our mental health? Dream therapy refers to the study and the process of understanding what dreams say about your life. Dreams speak of the challenges that we face during our waking hours and help illuminate our mind’s blind spots. Dreams can reflect personality, problematic attitudes, or hidden beliefs. They are a way for our subconscious mind to show us what we are feeling inside. Understanding our dreams might shine a light on our deepest secrets. Additionally, dream therapy can help pinpoint why you feel a certain way by encouraging soul-searching. While you may search deep within to discover what your dreams mean, you will find much more than just that.
Dream therapy has many benefits, these are just a couple that you might be interested into:
1. Conscious and subconscious balancing
– The major benefit of dream therapy is its ability to strengthen the subconscious and conscious minds. Think of it as a form of mental tuning. Understanding your subconscious might help out balancing and strengthening your conscious mind.
2. Becoming more in tune with yourself
– Dream therapy forces us to self-reflect. Since you are trying to discover the root of the pressing issues causing you to dream, you’ll have to dig deep to find the answers.
3. It encourages Self-Care
– You are taking time for yourself each day when you write in your journal or record your dreams. You may not realize it, but this is a form of self-care that will have a positive impact on your life.
4. Exploring Symbolism
– Symbolism plays an extraordinary role in this line of therapy. Dreams could contain specific symbols or mean completely different things than what you expect them to.
